*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has revealed that 120,400 international tourists arrived in Argentina in May 2022. The figures mark an increase of 1,682% compared to the same month of the previous year, when borders were closed to tourists due to a surge in coronavirus (Covid-19) cases and only 6,800 arrivals were recorded. Since borders were re-opened in November 2021, Indec has recorded a steady increase in the number of tourists visiting Argentina. In the first five months of 2022, 575,100 international tourists arrived in Argentina, an increase of 826% compared to the same five-month period of the previous year. The largest proportion of tourists in May came from Brazil, with 32,300. While tourism has rebounded significantly, the figures are still far short of the 228,500 arrivals recorded in May 2019, before the pandemic disrupted travel.
