In brief: Argentina’s industry and construction sectors post annual growth
*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released its latest figures on industrial manufacturing and construction, which show that both sectors grew year-on-year in May 2022 but posted little or negative growth in monthly terms. The industrial manufacturing index was up 11.9% in May 2022 compared with May 2021, with the strongest performing areas in annual terms being textiles, clothing, leather & footwear (up 33%) and automobiles & transport (up 26.3%). However, in monthly terms, industrial manufacturing contracted 1.1% in May 2022. Meanwhile, construction was up 19.9% in May 2022 compared with May 2021 but rose just 0.4% in monthly terms.
