GUYANA SIGNS BRIDGE DEAL WITH CHINA. On 25 May, Guyana and China signed a US$260m agreement for the construction of a new bridge over the Demerara River. The agreement has been 10 years in gestation. The new 2.65km four-lane, high-span bridge will replace the current 50-year-old floating structure and will allow the passage of large vessels. The Chinese joint venture that won the tender includes China Railway Construction Corporation (International) Ltd, China Railway Construction (Caribbean) Co Ltd, and China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group Co Ltd (China & Trinidad and Tobago).
