MEXICO: Gov’t fails to fix doctor shortage
Mexico’s government held a national recruitment day on 11 June in a bid to fill over 13,000 positions for specialist doctors that remain empty across the country. However, only 10,920 doctors registered – fewer than the number of vacancies on offer - and just over 6,000 turned up to their recruitment appointments. Despite the dedicated recruitment drive, barely a third of positions were ultimately filled. Many positions, particularly those in remote, marginal areas, received no applicants at all.
