On 20 May, trade representatives from Mexico and the United Kingdom launched negotiations to set up a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between both countries. Mexico’s Economy Minister Tatiana Clouthier stated that the FTA with the UK would not only address the trade of goods and services, but also digital trade, data flows, e-commerce, regulatory cooperation, and innovation. The FTA with the UK is part of the continuing focus of the administration of Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on international trade, which accounted for 77% of Mexico’s GDP in 2021.
