* Mexico’s President
Andrés Manuel López Obrador has met with two major business groups, the Consejo Mexicano de Negocios (CMN) and the Consejo Coordinador Empresarial (CCE), in Mexico City (CDMX) to discuss the economy, private investment, and his
upcoming meeting with US President
Joe Biden in Washington in July. Speaking to journalists after the meeting, CEE president
Francisco Cervantes Díaz said that López Obrador had shared details of the progress the Mexican government had made with business leaders in the US energy sector and described the president as being “
in favour of investment”. This backs up comments made by US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate
John Kerry following a meeting with López Obrador on 14 June. Cervantes also stated they had discussed a soon-to-be-announced investment package for infrastructure works. The meeting signals a more conciliatory shift in the relationship between the private sector and the president, a group with which he has previously clashed.
