*The managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF),
Kristalina Georgieva, arrived on 14 June for a four-day visit to Barbados. The visit comes just months before the expiry of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) arrangement made between Barbados and the IMF in 2018, which grants Barbados a total of US$290m to be used to implement a debt restructuring programme. With the four-year life span of the EFF approaching its end, Barbados Prime Minister
Mia Mottley said to reporters that no decisions on future arrangements with the IMF would be reached this week. However, Georgieva and Mottley will exchange ideas, before taking part in a panel discussion and a joint press conference on 17 June. The panel discussion will focus on building resilience and sustainability in the Caribbean and will also feature Deputy Prime Minister of Canada,
Chrystia Freeland.
