* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released its latest figures on the national consumer price index (INPC) which show that inflation in May increased 0.18% as compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, annual inflation stood at 7.65%, a slight decrease on the 7.68% registered in April. In a statement, Inegi said that the prices of agricultural products had increased 0.78%, whereas those of energy and government-authorised tariffs had decreased 2.47% at a monthly rate. Despite the slight deceleration, inflation remains well above the 3% +/- 1 target range that Mexico’s central bank (Banxico) set for 2022. Banxico recently raised its annual inflation forecast, stating inflation will stand at 6.7% at the end of the year, up from a previous forecast of 4%.
