* Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the latest figures on unemployment, which dropped to 7.7% over the period of February to April 2022. This is 2.5 percentage points lower than the same period a year earlier, and a 0.1 percentage point decrease on the previous rolling quarter (January-March). By sector, the increase in the employed population was driven by commerce which was up 11.2% year-on-year, followed by accommodation and food services (+31.5%) and health activities (+16.1%). According to INE, the informal employment rate stands at 27.2%, an increase of 1 percentage point in annual terms.
