*The Dominican Republic’s President Luis Abinader has inaugurated the start of construction works on a new port ‘Cabo Rojo port’, in Pedernales province, with an investment of US$98m. The initiative is part of a major tourism development project to develop the Dominican Republic’s southern Enriquillo region, comprising the provinces of Barahona, Pedernales, Independencia and Bahoruco through a public-private partnership. Construction on the new port, which will be administered by Dominican port authority (Apordom) and Mexican firm ITM Group, which is carrying out the construction works, is expected to take until December 2023 according to Abinader and ITM Group executive director, Mauricio Hamui.
