On 28 April, deputy finance minister, Gabriel Yorio, disclosed that the finance ministry (SHCP) was developing a package of tax incentives to boost investment in the Tehuantepec Isthmus region in southern Mexico, where the distance between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean is at its shortest. Investment is particularly encouraged in the Interoceanic Corridor (CIIT), a major logistical and industrial investment project which includes a 300-km long railway that will link the Pacific seaport of Salina Cruz (Oaxaca state) with the port of Coatzacoalcos (Veracruz state) on Mexico’s Caribbean coast.
