Andrés Manuel López Obrador has said that his government is seeking to invest in fertiliser plants to
“double or triple” national production of fertilisers. He said this would enable producers around the country to receive fertiliser for free. “
Guerrero is the only state in the country where all producers have the right to receive free fertiliser, but now we are going to do the same in other states,” said López Obrador in a press conference, adding that producers in Morelos, Estado de México (Edomex) and Mexico City would also receive free fertiliser. López Obrador said distribution would be prioritised for beneficiaries of his flagship Producción para el Bienestar and Sembrando Vida social programmes. The move to boost fertiliser production is part of the government’s
recently unveiled anti-inflation plan, which seeks to increase national self-sufficiency and lower import and distribution costs to limit the impact of rising inflation for consumers.
