* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has published its latest monthly index of economic activity (Emae), showing that Argentina’s economic activity expanded 9.1% year-on-year in February 2022 and 1.8% compared with the previous month – the highest monthly growth since June 2021 (2.9%). As with the previous month the strongest performing sector was hotels & restaurants which posted 31.9% year-on-year growth, followed by transport & communications (14.5%) and mining (14.1%). The only sector that contracted was agriculture, which fell by 0.8% compared to the previous year. The latest (19 April) forecast by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects that Argentina’s GDP will grow by 4% in 2022, down from 10.2% in 2021.
