The leaders of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) met in Belize for a Heads of Government summit from 1-2 March. The meeting was dominated by concerns over climate change and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which the Caricom leaders roundly condemned. Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves of St Vincent & the Grenadines, usually considered to be a friend of Russia, had preceded his appearance at the summit with a strongly worded open letter to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin condemning the invasion, which he said had driven a “horse-and-chariot…through the Charter of the United Nations” [see box].
