The much-anticipated US$1bn issue of the cryptocurrency bitcoin on 20 March, the first of its kind, has been postponed by El Salvador’s government. The finance minister, Alejandro Zelaya, said on 22 March that the government was awaiting a more settled financial market before issuing the ‘volcano bond’. This wait could be quite long.
