* Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the latest figures on unemployment, which dropped to 7.3% over the period of November 2021-January 2022. This is 2.9 percentage points lower than the same period a year earlier, and a 0.1 percentage point decrease on the previous rolling quarter (October-December). INE highlighted that this is the ninth consecutive decline in unemployment, indicative of continued recovery from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. It also estimates that 85.1% of formal jobs and 93.3% of informal jobs have been recovered since what it describes as the “
worst point” in the pandemic, in the May-July 2020 rolling quarter.
