* Ecuador’s tax authority (SRI) has released new figures showing that the tax take in January totalled US$1.55bn, representing a 19% increase on the same month in 2021. Value-added tax (VAT) was up 31% year-on-year to total US$827m, while income tax was up 6% to total US$467m. The SRI’s director general,
Marisol Andrade, said that the additional US$253m received this January was
“the result of control and charging processes carried out by the SRI to ensure the timely and correct payment of taxes,” adding that the increased haul was also a
“reflection of the country’s economic reactivation” as it recovers from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
