BOLIVIA: Former drug czar facing extradition
Maximiliano Dávila Pérez, the director of Bolivia’s counter-narcotics unit (FELCN) in the final months of the Evo Morales administration (2006-2019), was the subject of a US extradition request announced by Foreign Minister Rogelio Mayta on 2 February. Dávila is sought by US prosecutors accusing him of drug trafficking offences, but is also facing money laundering charges in Bolivia. A number of high-ranking figures in the ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) have called on President Luis Arce’s administration to deny the extradition request.
