The migrant protection protocol (MPP) is already making its impact known in northern Mexico,
despite only being in force since December. According to US-based human rightsS lobby group Washington Office on Latin America (Wola), as of 10 January - just over a month since the programme’s controversial restart – the MPP, also known as the 'Remain in Mexico' programme, had sent 249 asylum-seeking migrants back to Mexico.
