In brief: Mexico reports record agri-food exports
* Mexico’s agriculture and rural development ministry (Sader) has reported that the country’s agri-food exports totalled US$40.29bn in the first 11 months of 2021, the highest figure recorded in the past 29 years. According to the same report, agri-food imports totalled US$33.96bn. This means that in the first 11 months of 2021, Mexico’s agri-food trade balance reached a surplus of US$6.33bn, the third-largest positive balance in 27 years, according to data from the agri-food and fisheries information service (SIAP). Mexico’s most significant agri-food exports were beer (sales of which totalled US$5.81bn in the first 11 months of 2021); followed by tequila and mezcal (US$2.98bn) and avocados (US$2.79bn).
