* Colombia’s national federation of coffee producers (FNC) has reported that the country’s coffee harvest declined for the second year running in 2021, amounting to 12.6m sacks (1 sack = 60kg). This was down 9% on the 2020 total, with the FNC blaming the sector’s poor performance on roadblocks erected during last year’s wave of social unrest, as well as adverse climatic conditions. Coffee exports were also down 1% in 2021 compared with the previous year, amounting to 12.4m sacks. Newly released figures for December show that in that month, production was down 21% year-on-year (1.4m sacks), while exports were down 10% (1.2m sacks).
