CHILE: Red alerts over forest fires
Parts of central and southern Chile saw out 2021 with forest fires tearing through the countryside. Although the red alerts that were declared in certain municipalities in the final weeks of December 2021 had been suspended by the first days of January 2022, four regions were suffering from active fires as the New Year was ushered in: O’Higgins, Ñuble, La Araucanía, and Los Lagos.
