* Brazil’s state-owned oil firm Petrobras has announced that it plans to produce a further 20bn barrels of oil equivalent (boe) by 2030 thanks to its programme destined to increase the yield of the company’s existing oil deposits, known as RES20. The programme uses artificial intelligence (AI) and the
“application of a deep technical knowledge” to better map the deep-water ‘pre-salt’ oil fields and better exploit their yield capacity.
“The pre-salt’s high-quality assets and the opportunity for technological development, with the application of high-resolution seismology, represent levers for achieving this objective [of 20bn boe produced by 2030],” Petrobras’ director of exploration and production,
Fernando Borges, is cited as saying in a company statement. Petrobras notes that in its almost seven decades of operation so far, it has produced 23bn boe.
