In brief: Remittances to El Salvador surge

* Remittances to El Salvador totalled US$6.77bn in the first 11 months of 2021, up 28.2% compared with the same period in 2020 according to the latest figures from El Salvador’s central bank (BCR). According to the same report, remittances from the US totalled US$6.43bn, accounting for 95.0% of the total, followed by Canada (US$63.7m), Spain (US$25.9m), Italy (US$22.6m), and Mexico (US$7.1m).
