Chile’s two presidential candidates were holding events to close their respective campaigns in the capital Santiago as we went to press on 16 December, with just three days to go before the second-round presidential run-off. Gabriel Boric, representing the left-wing Apruebo Dignidad coalition, appears to have a slight advantage over his far-right opponent, José Antonio Kast from the Partido Republicano (PLR), who came two points ahead in the first round. But the race remains wide open, with much hinging upon which candidate will have been most successful in appealing to the undecided voters in the centre.
