Simón Cueva, has announced that the government will aim to reduce the fiscal deficit to 3.4% of GDP by the end of 2022, according to comments reported in the local media. He noted that the fiscal deficit exceeded 7% of GDP in 2020, and is expected to close 2021 at 4% of GDP. Cueva also raised the possibility that the deficit could be slashed to 2.5% of GDP by the end of next year if the national assembly approves a series of
tax, labour, and investment reforms proposed by the government.
