* Brazil’s national association of automobile manufacturers (Anfavea) has released its latest performance results, which show that 173,300 units were produced in September, a 21.3% reduction compared with a year earlier. In the nine months to September, production in the automobile sector totalled 1.65m units, a 24% increase on the same period a year earlier. Anfavea has revised its projections for the automobile sector’s performance this year: it now expects production to come in at between 2.13m and 2.22m in 2021, a 6%-10% increase on 2020 production levels, while new vehicle sales are expected to be between 1% lower and 3% higher than 2020 levels. Anfavea notes that a global shortage of semiconductors has increased the uncertainty regarding the automobile sector’s performance this year; it adds that an increase in costs and logistical difficulties have further hampered vehicle production in Brazil.
