* Ecuador’s ministry of energy & non-renewable resources has opened the bidding process for three concessions to construct, operate and maintain various electricity generation and transmission plants, seeking a private investment of US$1.86bn across the projects. These consist of a 500MW block of renewable energy concessions, which requires a US$875m investment and will use solar, wind, hydroelectric, and biomass energy at various power generation plants across the country; a 400MW block of concessions to generate electricity for the city of Guayaquil (Guayas province) using natural gas, which requires a private investment of US$600m; and a new ‘north-eastern transmission system’ in Sucumbíos and Orellana provinces, which is to supply oil facilities with 300MW and requires a private investment of US$386m to construct 290km of transmission lines.
