* The Centro de Estudios de la Realidad Económica y Social (Ceres), a Uruguayan independent research centre, has released figures showing that Uruguay’s economy is on a trajectory of recovery from the crisis caused by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Ceres’ ‘Índice Líder’ (ILC), a predictive indicator of economic performance, grew 0.9% in July, the fourth consecutive month of positive performance. According to Ceres, this confirms the recovery from the coronavirus-induced economic contraction and reflects the improvement of the Covid-19 public health crisis as infections and fatalities fall and vaccination advances. However, Ceres adds that at the current pace of recovery, a return to pre-pandemic levels remains distant.
