* Honduras’s central bank (BCH) has released new figures which show Honduras’s exports in the first two months of 2021 totalled US$785.4m, down 3.4% on the same period in 2020. The BCH figures show imports to Honduras totalled US$1.75m over the same period, up 5.3% on the first two months in 2020. This leaves a trade deficit of US$964.8m, a 13.7% increase on the same period in 2020. According to a BCH report, the reduction in exports in the first two months of 2021 stemmed from falls in products such as bananas (US$40m, -54.1% year-on-year); sugar (US$10.1m, -38.8%) and melons (US$30.4m, -35.8%) which the BCH attributes to a reduction in external demand and the adverse effects of tropical storms 'Eta' and 'Iota', which struck in November 2020.
