The Mexican government has reached an agreement with local business leaders and trade unions over changes to the regulations on outsourcing. The outcome of extensive negotiations, the agreement is the first economic reform initiative on which the government led by Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has been able to reach a consensus with the business sector. It has been hailed as a victory for consensus democracy and raised hopes of improved relations between the business sector and the government, potentially paving the way for accords to be reached over some of the other controversial economic reforms pursued by López Obrador.
