BOLIVIA: Border cooperation with Brazil, tension with Argentina

Bolivia and Brazil have strengthened controls along their common border, ostensibly to prevent members of drug gangs fleeing from the recent crackdown in Rio de Janeiro from seeking refuge in Bolivia. In both cases the military are involved in support of the police. The deployments coincide with a US claim that potential cocaine production in Bolivia has remained stable over the past year.
