BOLIVIA: Electoral fraud question hangs over coming vote
Almost a year on from the elections of October 2019, annulled over allegations of electoral fraud, Bolivia may finally get another chance to go to the polls on 6 September. Efforts to arrange this vote have been chaotic in the extreme – it may have taken a global pandemic to derail the process, but political partisanship has played the key role in stopping things from getting back on track. Even if voting does go ahead in September (and recent events suggest this is by no means a done deal), it is hard to see any outcome producing a decisive resolution to a political crisis that was set alight back in October, but is ultimately grounded in far more long-lasting and deep-lying divisions [SSR-20-03].
