Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador denounced a plot on 9 June by opposition parties (including former presidents), business groups, magistrates, and journalists to forge a united front against his government aimed at removing him from power. López Obrador said he had come into possession of a document, of unknown provenance, that confirmed the existence of a so-called Bloque Opositor Amplio (BOA). All of those ostensibly signed up to the grouping denied involvement; some accused López Obrador of seeking to distract attention from his government’s mishandling of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
