MEXICO: CJNG in a vulnerable position
It may be considered the most powerful drug trafficking organisation (DTO) in Mexico, responsible for the high levels of violence there and most of the synthetic drug trafficking into the US. But the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) and its operations are currently in a vulnerable position after being targeted by US law enforcement and as an indirect consequence of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. This juncture affords the US and Mexican authorities a clear opportunity to eliminate a criminal organisation that represents a major transnational threat.
