BRAZIL: Weakened by the COP

The United Nations (UN) COP25 climate talks taking place under Chile’s leadership in Madrid, Spain, concluded with a two-day delay on 15 December. The failure, despite the extension, of the countries in attendance to reach a consensus on ambitious climate action was branded “disappointing” by UN Secretary General António Guterres. Such a sense of disappointment also prevailed amongst representatives from both the Brazilian government and civil society, although not for the same reasons.
