On 19 November, violence suddenly intruded into the run-up to Dominica’s 6 December general election. Protesters, mainly supporters of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP), blocked roads leading to President Charles Savarin’s official residence, leading to the use of tear gas and rubber bullets by riot police.
