Dominican Republic: According to figures released by the Dominican Republic (DR)’s central bank (BCRD), in the first six months of 2018 the DR received 3.4m tourists who travelled to the country by air, up 6.1% compared with the same period of 2017. The most common region of origin for the tourists was North America (61.1%), followed by Europe (19.4%), South America (13.3%), and Central America and the Caribbean (5.9%), while Asia and the rest of the world was the source of just 0.3% of tourists received. The number of tourists from North and South America grew by 7.8% and 13.3% respectively compared with the first six months of 2017 while tourists from Europe and Central America and the Caribbean declined by 2.4% and 14.4% respectively.
