Farc and Left prepare to seize opportunity in 2018 elections

The Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) leftist guerrillas have taken a significant step in their process of fully reintegrating into Colombian society following last year’s signing of a peace deal with the government. The demobilised guerrillas have drawn up the statutes of their new political party and outlined its political objectives. With the Farc guaranteed a set number of legislative seats in the March 2018 legislative elections under the peace agreement, and Colombia’s Right in a state of flux, the question is whether the Farc can join forces with the rest of the country’s Left to contest not just the legislative elections but also the May 2018 presidential polls.
