Brazil: On 17 July, Brazil’s agriculture minister, Blairo Maggi, met his US counterpart, Sonny Perdue, in Washington DC to discuss the US’s suspension of all imports of fresh beef from Brazil. A press release from Brazil’s agriculture ministry claims that dialogue with its US counterpart was very clear and open and expressed hopes that the US could lift the ban on Brazilian beef imports, imposed due to concerns about the safety of Brazilian meat products intended for the US market, in 30-60 days. However, the press release noted that the final decision would be made after the analysis of information presented by Brazil to the US on progress made on its sanitary inspection procedures.
