Last month the US government led by President Donald Trump announced its decision to extend the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Haiti – a US immigration benefit which affects some 50,000 Haitians in the US – for just a further six months. The decision has met with criticism from US-based activists and legislators who have been calling for it to be extended for a further 18 months.
