The federal attorney general’s office (PGR) has announced that the former governor of Quintana Roo state, Roberto Borge (2011-2014), has been arrested in Panama. Borge, a member of the nationally ruling Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), is wanted in Mexico on money laundering and corruption charges dating back to his time as governor. His arrest comes after the PGR requested Interpol to issue an international arrest warrants against him last month amid suspicions that he may have fled Mexico. The PGR said that it would now work with the Panamanian authorities to secure Borge’s extradition.
