Renewable energy. On 29 March, the Mexican subsidiary of Italian renewables company Enel, Enel Green Power Mexico (EGPM), began constructing the firm’s largest solar-powered plant to date in Villanueva, in the northern state of Coahuila. Enel has pledged US$650m towards the project, which is due for completion in 2018. The plant will have a total installed capacity of 754 megawatts (MW) and will generate around 1700 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity each year; enough to power 1.3m homes and save around 780,000 tonnes in CO₂ emissions.
