Brazil: On 13 February, US Vice President Mike Pence spoke by telephone with Brazil’s President Michel Temer. According to a White House press release the two discussed ways to strengthen the bilateral relationship, underscoring “the importance of shared values” between the US and Brazil, “including respect for democratic institutions and the rule of law, commitment to hemispheric security, and their common interests in creating jobs and stimulating economic growth”. The same press release notes that the two “agreed to remain in close communication in order to advance their shared vision for a stable and prosperous hemisphere”.
