Weekly Report - 25 February 2010 (WR-10-08)

Members of the Rio Group attending this week's summit in Cancún approved the formation in principle of a Community of Latin American and Caribbean States. Mexico's President Felipe Calderón, the summit host, said the new regional bloc would foster cooperation and promote regional political consensus in global forums. It will be composed of the 23 Rio Group members plus 10 Caribbean states - all the countries in the Americas except the US and Canada.
