Problems not over for Cornejo. On 18 March the president of Peru’s congressional investigative committee, Vicente Zeballos Salinas, announced that it had begun a preliminary investigation into Peru’s new prime minister, René Cornejo. According to local press reports, Zeballos, who hails from the opposition centre-right Partido Solidaridad Nacional, said that the investigation is in response to claims that Helios SAC, a company founded by Cornejo in 2008, had won a State contract in 2011 (when he still owned it), when he was housing minister which is against the law. Cornejo reportedly sold his stake in the company in October 2012. Zeballos added that Cornejo, whose new cabinet only just won a vote of confidence by the congress on
17 March, would be cited to appear before the commission between the first and second weeks of April.
