President Nicolás Maduro and the leader of the opposition Henrique Capriles Radonski led rival marches in Caracas on 3 August to condemn corruption. They served as the unofficial launch of the next of Venezuela’s seemingly endless electoral campaigns: municipal elections on 8 December. Maduro proceeded to handpick several prominent TV and sports personalities to run in key municipalities.
