MEXICO | IMF funding shield could continue. As October was drawing to a close, the governor of Mexico’s central bank (Banxico), Agustín Carstens, proclaimed that the country’s financial system is solid and shielded from the crisis in Europe. He ruled out any possibility of ‘contagion’ from foreign banks to their affiliates in Mexico, precisely because they are affiliates and not branches, with their own capital, reserves and sources of funding.
