MEXICO: Split over labour law gives birth to new alliance

Even before taking over the presidency, the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) has achieved a major political feat: to push the conservative Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) into a congressional alliance with the leftist Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD), its ally the Movimiento Ciudadano (MC).  The stated motive for the alliance was to oppose the PRI’s “authoritarian practices”.
