“If you are not a Chavista, you are not Venezuelan”

Venezuela’s President Hugo Chávez uttered these words while addressing the Bolivarian armed forces (FANB) on the 191st anniversary of the Battle of Carabobo on 24 June. Chávez said that the battle for independence was still being waged, while arguing that the impeachment of Paraguay’s President Fernando Lugo was part of “the Empire’s plans being hatched against Venezuela”.
